Clinical trials are research studies aimed at improving the prevention , diagnosis , and treatment of cancer . They are the driving force behind the major advances made in cancer care . Findings from clinical trials have resulted in more cancer patients being cured , living longer , and experiencing a better quality of life .

Hawai ‘ i ’ s diverse population continues to serve as a fertile ground to study all aspects of cancer . Establishing a robust clinical trials program is one of the most effective ways of expanding knowledge of cancer in our unique population .
The UH Cancer Center has been actively involved in the conduct of clinical trials for over four decades and remains committed to making clinical trials accessible to all the residents of Hawai ‘ i . Currently , there are over 80 clinical trials being conducted at the Cancer Center . Over the past five years , more than 14,600 people , including cancer patients , have participated in UH Cancer Center clinical trials . Clinical research and clinical trials are an integral part of the
Cancer Center ’ s mission to reduce the burden of cancer and to improve the lives of cancer patients and their caregivers .
