The University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center is dedicated to saving lives in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, and inspiring hope by working to conquer cancer. The flagship priority is to understand and address cancer health dispari�es. The center strives to achieve this through research, educa�on, pa�ent care, and community outreach, focusing on the unique and diverse ethnic, cultural, and environmental characteris�cs of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.

The UH Cancer Center is one of only 73 ins�tu�ons designated by the Na�onal Cancer Ins�tute( NCI), represen�ng a significant mark of excellence, and is the only NCI-designated cancer center in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. The center contributes more than $ 57 million to Hawaiʻi’ s economy through scien�fic research, clinical trials, and other ac�vi�es.

As part of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, the UH Cancer Center operates out of facili�es located in Kakaʻako. The center directly employs more than 300 faculty and staff, with an addi�onal 200 affiliate members and coopera�ve agreements with organiza�ons that are part of the Hawaiʻi Cancer Consor�um. The consor�um includes The Queen’ s Health Systems, Hawaiʻi Pacific Health, Kuakini Medical Center, Adven�st Health Castle, Hilo Benioff Medical Center, Hawaiʻi Medical Service Associa�on( HMSA), and the John A. Burns School of Medicine( JABSOM), all working together with the UH Cancer Center to advance cancer research and treatment in the state.

The Hawai‘ i Tumor Registry( HTR) was established in 1960 by the Hawai‘ i Medical Associa�on, the Hawai‘ i State Department of Health, and the Hawai‘ i Pacific Division of the American Cancer Society. The HTR has been operated by the University of Hawai‘ i Cancer Center since 1973 when it became a funded registry of the Na�onal Cancer Ins�tute Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results( SEER) Program. As one of the 28 NCI / SEER regions na�onwide, the HTR provides complete and confiden�al cancer repor�ng for the en�re state and serves as a resource for cancer research and cancer control ac�vi�es in Hawai‘ i and the U. S.. Its data is used for local, na�onal, and interna�onal research efforts.
